A rare opportunity to enjoy a gourmet dinner and sneak preview of upcoming vintage railroad service is presented this weekend, as Pullman Sleeping Car Company will host three dining excursions from Union Station. Enjoy dinner on Friday or Saturday or brunch on Sunday, prepared by chef Dan Traynor, formerly of Prasino. Full service of the Pullman cars is scheduled to launch in October.

CityGrounds is offering a tasting of new blend from Passion House Coffee Roasters: the Rwanda Buf Caf? Red Bourbon. The coffee's described as ?crystal clean with a sparkly lemon-lime clarity and crisp body.? 4-6 PM, CityGrounds Coffee Bar, 507 W. Dickens, 773-857-1576, free.

Chef Jacquy Pfeiffer, cofounder of the French Pastry School, is lecturing on ?The Endangered Art of French Hospitality," presented by the Culinary Historians of Chicago. Pfeiffer will discuss how the ?gastronomic meal of the French? has evolved over the centuries and has come to be "a cultural practice in urgent need of safeguarding." The Red Canary is hosting an all-day Mardi Gras party featuring brunch from 10 AM-3 PM, dinner from 3 PM-midnight, and drinks until 3 AM. The original strong ales outdoor winter beer festival takes place at Rock Bottom Chicago, where more than 25 selections from Chicago area microbreweries and a few national selections are highlighted.
